Racecast is an independent project. It is not a company and is not affiliated with the timing companies, swisstopo or the organisers of the races shown. The organisers are not responsible for the content of this website.

Privacy policy

This policy follows the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). It describes which personal data is processed on this website, for what purpose and with whom it is shared.

At a glance

1. Controller

The person named at the end of this page, reachable at info@racecast.ch. For all questions about data protection, please write to this address.

2. Participant data (replay)

The replay is based on the publicly published results of the respective race (the organiser's timing provider). Racecast only uses: bib number, course, sex, age category, rank, finish time and split times.

Not used: names, place of residence, nationality, year of birth and club or company. These details are not part of the replay data at all.

Purpose: displaying the race as a replay on the map and personal race analysis (ranking progression, comparison with the field). Positions on the map are calculated from the split times and the official course, not measured – they are approximations. No GPS recordings, watch data or other additional data are collected.

Removal from the replay: If you do not want your race to be shown, send a short e-mail with your bib number to info@racecast.ch. The entry will be removed within a few days, also for future updates.

Retention: the data remains online as long as the replay of the event is published. Data of past editions is used for the comparison with the previous year.

3. Visiting the website and hosting

4. Usage statistics

Racecast uses Umami (Umami Software Inc., USA), a privacy-friendly analytics tool without cookies. It records page views and anonymous events (e.g. “replay started”, “my replay opened”) as well as technical details such as device type, browser and approximate location (country, region and city, derived from the IP address). IP addresses are not stored; it is not possible to attribute data to individual persons. No bib numbers or search terms are transmitted. If you answer the short question “How do you like Racecast?”, only the number of stars (1–5) is counted anonymously.

5. Survey

The voluntary feedback survey runs on Tally (Tally BV, Belgium, EU). It is anonymous unless you voluntarily leave contact details. The answers are used solely to develop Racecast further. Racecast does not pass your bib number to the survey.

If you indicate in the survey that you would like to hear about further races and leave your email address, we use it for that purpose only. It is not passed on to third parties and is deleted at any time on request – a short email to info@racecast.ch is enough.

6. Maps and fonts

7. Storage in your browser

To make things more convenient, the browser stores a few settings on your device (local storage): favourites, the bib number you last entered in “My analysis” and – if you use the duel or the comparison with the previous year – the other bib number or your bib number from that year; also whether you have already answered the question “How do you like Racecast?” (so it is not asked again) or closed it (then it returns at the earliest after 12 hours), and whether you have already zoomed the map (for the zoom tip). Only for the current session, the browser stores whether you have closed the notice about the new results. This data is not transmitted to Racecast. You can delete it at any time by clearing the website data in your browser.

8. Sharing and story image

The story image is created entirely in your browser – nothing is uploaded. A shared “My analysis” link contains the bib number, so the recipients can see the replay for this bib number.

9. Disclosure abroad

Cloudflare and Umami are based in the USA. The USA does not offer an adequate level of data protection for every company. The providers secure the transfer with contractual safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses) or, where available, a certification under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Racecast only transfers data to them that is necessary for the purposes described.

10. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct and delete your data and to object to its processing. Simply write to info@racecast.ch. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC, edoeb.admin.ch).

There is no automated individual decision-making and no profiling.

11. Changes

This privacy policy may be adapted if Racecast or the legal situation changes. The version published here applies.
